Pussy Riot

Every part of my being has rejoiced in the outrageous, courageous and brillant glory that is Pussy Riot.  For so long I have hoped for an end to all things that enslave us. The women of Pussy Riot have blown one door of the prisons of both government and societal enslavement off the hinge. And for this they each willingly pay a serious price.

Nadezda Tolokonnikova, Yekaterina Samutsevich and Maria Alyokhina join a long and precious line of activists whose names we know.  Alice Paul. Gandhi. The Pankhurst Sisters.  Martin Luther King, Jr.  Lady Godiva. Thoreau.  Mrs. Norwood. Abie Hoffman. Antigone. Bobby Sands.  Angela Davis. Rachel Corrie.  Rosa Parks.  John Brown.  Karen Silkwood.  Nelson Mandela.  And an even longer line of those precious ones whose names we will never know.
